STATIONS OF THE CROSS
Jesus died in Jerusalem just days after his triumphant entrance to the city. After public humiliation and brutal beatings, he was forced to drag his heavy cross from the court yard to Calvary Hill where He was crucified. The path He walked is called Via Dolorosa, "the way of pain." After His death, people began to make visits to Jerusalem and walk in Jesus' footsteps.
They would stop along the way and remember what happened to Jesus at the exact spot where they were standing. Jesus carried His cross but many other events occurred along the Via Dolorosa too. These events are called stations. That's how we got the name Stations of the Cross.
But the Stations are not just about remembering, they are about relating: Our relationship with God – our relationship with other humans. As we walk with Jesus along the Via Dolorosa in the Stations of the Cross, we are gifted time to see ourselves through new eyes and ask for guidance.
The shadow figures illustrated here were portrayed by our 7th and 8th graders over the past several years and would have been presented again this year. Although we could not gather to pray the Stations this year, we hope to continue the tradition next year.
At each Station, we pray: We adore you, O Christ and we bless you
Because by your holy Cross you have redeemed the world
We begin our journey . . . In the name of the father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
